What is CompEx?

The CompEx Scheme is the recognised global solution for validating the competency of staff working in all industries with potentially hazardous and explosive atmospheres. Our purpose is to support and promote workplace safety, by certifying personal competency.

We have partnered with CompEx Certified Training Academy to conduct CompEx Courses for candidates in Qatar, Oman, UAE & Saudi Arabia (KSA)

CompEx FOUNDATION (EXF)

The CompEx Foundation qualification has been designed to provide an introduction into potentially explosive or flammable environments where gases, vapours and dust can form a hazardous atmosphere. This CompEx Unit provides basic training with certification for personnel who work on equipment for use in explosive atmospheres. The intention of the training is to provide companies a method to raise Hazardous Area awareness for their employees, and/or possibly to measure the suitability of a candidate to work towards competency assessment CompEx Ex01-04.

Upon completion of the CompEx ‘F’ course the student will be able to –

  1. Basic understanding of the directives & regulations related to Hazardous area
  2. Basic awareness of IEC 60079 series of standards
  3. Understand the need for additional protections in Ex areas
  4. Understand Ex signage and meaning of area classifications
  5. Understand activities which are and are not allowed in Ex areas and on Ex equipment

CompEx Ex 01 – 04 (Most Popular Course)

CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Gas & Vapours Course: This course will provide delegates with the required competence based training and assessment in the selection, use, maintenance, and inspection of electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres, in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60079 series of relevant standards.

Delegates for the course should be competent electrical and/or instrument craft personnel. You are required to bring with you Photo Identification and suitable evidence that you are fully qualified in electrical or instruments or both.

CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Theory Resit

The CompEx Electrical Resit (Theory) is a resit of the theory element of the CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Gas & Vapours Electrical course. Delegates MUST resit within 12 months of the original CompEx Electrical assessment and are allowed a maximum of 2 resit attempts.

CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Practical Resit

The CompEx Electrical Resit – Practical is a resit of the practical element of a CompEx Electrical course. Delegates MUST resit within 12 months of the original CompEx Electrical assessment and are allowed a maximum of 2 resit attempts.

Persons whose certificate(s) is no longer current i.e. outside of 5 years must complete their chosen course units through CompEx Refresher Course. CompEx RPP Refresher Exams The refresher exams consist of

1. A new installation section test (selection board including motors)

2. Make off two glands (practically assessed)

3. Ex inspection on real equipment

4. Full 90 minutes 60 question online exam

CompEx Ex05-Ex06 Combustible Dust Course

The CompEx Ex05-Ex06 Dust Course is designed for providing the underpinning knowledge and practical assessment of electrical personnel who undertake the physical installation and assembly of new ‘Ex’ equipment and, who perform preventive maintenance and inspections on previously installed equipment in potentially explosive dust atmospheres.

These units are used to extend the competence for technicians and operatives who prepare, install, maintain and inspect electrical equipment for use in Explosive Dust Atmospheres.

  • Module Ex05 meets the competency requirements of IEC 60079 – 14 for ‘Operatives (selection and erection)
  • Module Ex06 meets the competency requirements of IEC 60079 – 17 for ‘Operatives (inspection and maintenance)

CompEx Ex14 Responsible Person Course

The CompEx Ex14 Responsible Person course was introduced in 2016 and addresses the requirements of the Responsible Persons duties as laid down in IEC Standard 60079 Part 14 Annex ‘A’.

Ex14 meets the competency requirements of IEC 60079 – 14 & 17 for Responsible Persons.

This course addresses the requirements of the Responsible Person as laid down in IEC Standard 60079 Parts 14 & 17. It is NOT a “practitioners” course and is not normally suitable for technicians. The course is aimed at those individuals in a senior supervisory / responsible role, i.e. those persons directly responsible for the management of staff, processes and procedures relating to explosive atmospheres.

CompEx Ex11 certification, also known as the CompEx Foundation course, is a specialized training program designed to provide individuals with essential knowledge and skills related to explosive atmospheres. This certification is crucial for those working in industries where potentially explosive atmospheres may be present, such as oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, and mining industries.

The CompEx Ex11 certification covers a range of topics, including the principles of hazardous area classification, selection and installation of electrical equipment, and the maintenance and inspection of equipment in explosive atmospheres. It also emphasizes the importance of compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, ensuring safety and minimizing the risk of ignition sources.
